URBAN ART

The Urban Art Celebration is the only fundraising event held annually to support programs and services at Cooper Green Mercy Hospital.  During this event all mediums of art are expounded and brought into public awareness so that more people will be exposed to the messages in its beauty and the power in its healing.

Since its conception, the Urban Art Celebration has featured the work of wonderful local artists like Tabringna Coleman, Chris Clark, Frank Fleming, Jean Jacques Gaudel, John Solomon Sandridge, Cam Langley, and Calvin Macon.  With the support of individuals and corporations, we raise funds to augment and support existing and new services.  This year's featured artist is Larry Allen.  Our honored artists for 2010 include Thornton Dial, Chris Clark, Matt Phillips, Grady Barrow, Royal Miree, Carolyn Amick, Jerome Austin, and Tena Payne.  For 2010, funds raised through this event will be used to support many different areas of the hospital, such as Oncology, Radiology, and Diabetes.

The Urban Art Celebration 2010 theme is “Unity”.  As Jefferson County’s only public institution, we provide healthcare services for residents of Jefferson County, many whom are indigent, uninsured and underinsured and working poor patients without regard to their ability to pay.

Sponsors of Urban Art Celebration 2010 will have the opportunity to enter a guest artist in a competition to draw their rendition of the original art.  This competition will occur during the event and the winning artist will award the original art to a lucky voter.  That’s our “version” of a raffle and it makes for a truly unique interactive event that’s always enjoyed by every guest.  Along with the drawing, we also have a silent auction, which includes the works of great local artists.  The evening event concludes with a live auction where you can purchase the interpretations of the featured artist’s work, which have been created during the event.

HOW DOES URBAN ART WORK:

Each participant in Urban Art Celebration will be given an opportunity to purchase art via a silent or live auction.  Participants will also be given the opportunity to walk away with the featured art piece through the “Balloting” process.

Choose your favorite artist and stuff their ballot box with as many votes as you wish.  To conclude the event, the winning artist will be determined by the weight of the ballots in their ballot box.  If your favorite wins and one of your ballot is drawn, you’ll be “looking good” with an original by our feature artist.

Urban Art Celebration 2010 is a wonderful opportunity for you to participate in a great event while at the same time supporting services for those affected by cancer, diabetes, and other diseases in our community.
