Grants

Cooper Green Mercy Hospital is the recipient of several grants aimed at improving patient care and reducing health care disparities among the patients we serve. Current grants in which we serve as the primary grantee include:
Deep South Partnership for Prevention of CVD Disparities Grant – The ACCE Grant
The ACCE Grant is a five year $2.5 million dollar grant to seek ways to reduce disparity in the death rate among African Americans due to heart disease. The project is a partnership between UAB, Cooper Green Hospital/Jefferson Health System, Tuskegee University and the Mineral District Medical Society, a professional society of African American physicians in the Birmingham Area. ACCE includes four research projects, plus investigator training and community outreach components.

The Emergency Department and Ambulatory Clinic Computer System Enhancement and Installation grant provided for redesign and implementation of new electronic medical records in the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Clinics. Although the grant funding is complete, the project is in implementation phase.

The scope of this grant is to produce an interactive digital video disc (DVD) intervention to promote adherence to hypertension medication and achieve blood pressure control for African American patients. The project is sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and its Finding Answers research initiative.
The Hospital also collaborates with several organizations in carrying out the objectives of their grants.
