Imaging Services

The Cooper Green Mercy Hospital Imaging Department offers diagnostic services for patients of all ages to authorized healthcare providers. Our state licensed, board certified team of technical professionals are available 24 hours a day, every day, for inpatients, outpatients and emergency exams, focusing on accuracy and efficiency in patient care. Range of services includes diagnostic procedures, invasive/intraoperative and non-invasive techniques and radiation, with or without the use of contrast media. It is our goal to offer a comfortable, anxiety-free environment to our patients while providing exceptional imaging.

Radiography is a proven and useful procedure that utilizes differences in x-ray attenuation to evaluate human anatomy and pathology. The goal of radiography is to establish the presence or absence and nature of disease by demonstration of the disease process itself or the effects of the disease process on the normal anatomy. The study should be done with the minimal radiation dose necessary to achieve an optimal study.

There are many indications for radiography, and these are dependent on the patient’s clinical history and the disease processes that affect the anatomic area to be studied. There should be a sufficient clinical indication to warrant performance of a study, and a reasonable anticipation that the results of the radiograph, normal or abnormal, will influence treatment course of the patient. The indications should be communicated with the physician responsible for performance and interpretation of the radiographic study.

The Cooper Green Mercy Hospital Imaging Department is accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, The American College of Radiology (ACR) Standards, the State of Alabama, and meets all MQSA standards.

Report directly to the Imaging Department on the first floor of the hospital for registration and testing. The phone number is 930-3278.

Patient Instructions

Many imaging studies require that patients follow specific instructions to prepare for the test.

Registration

In most instances, your physician's office staff will schedule your imaging procedure. To be fully prepared and to ensure your procedure goes as smoothly as possible, follow the instructions for your specific test procedure. These should have been provided by your physician or clinic and are available on this website .

When you come to the hospital, go directly to the Radiology (X-Ray) Department that is located on the first floor of the hospital. Bring a photo identification, list of allergies, list of medications (with dosages, including over-the-counter medications) and insurance information. Please arrive 15 minutes hour prior to your scheduled appointment time to accommodate the registration process.

Film Requests

You may pick up your films Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. All film pickup requests should be called in, preferably 24 hours in advance, to 205-930-3278. You should provide your name, date of birth and the type of films that you are requesting for pick up as well as the pick up date required. If you do not call ahead to request a film pickup, there may be a delay in processing your request.

Sign-Out Policy for Patient Pickup

After you have requested a film pickup, simply come to the Radiology Department. Please have photo identification available to present to the receptionist. You will be asked to sign a release authorization prior to receiving your requested films. The Radiology film sign-out policy is strictly followed due to designated HIPAA regulations.

Sign-Out Policy for Designee Pickup

Patients who are not able to pick up films in person and choose to send in a designee should be advised that the designee is required to have written authorization by the patient in order to pick up the films. Simply put, patients who are unable to pick up their own films need to state on a piece of paper the name of the designee and that they are authorized to pick up films. The patient should sign this piece of paper and instruct the designee to bring it to the hospital and provide it to the Radiology clerk. The designee will also be required to show photo identification and sign the release authorization in order to sign out films. The Radiology film sign-out policy is strictly followed due to designated HIPAA regulations.

Return Policy

Please keep in mind that all films that are signed out are originals, and need to be returned by the patient within 30 days of their sign out.
