Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency Program

The Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency program here at Cooper Green Mercy Hospital is dedicated to provide a complete graduate medical education to produce competent and compassionate Family Medicine physicians. Our residency program will provide a holistic approach to care for the underserved in this area of great provider need. The patient population that Cooper Green Mercy Hospital serves needs not only intelligent, cutting edge physicians to care for them; but also providers who will focus on counseling and education regarding preventative measures that will ensure their ongoing health.

          Our goal is to provide a professional environment filled with respect and understanding in which young physicians can build their scientific and procedural knowledge, along with cultural competence. Skills such as these will provide our residents with the means necessary to care for the vastly diverse patient population of the greater Birmingham area.

          Being an osteopathic residency our program will provide opportunity for our residents to apply the osteopathic principals in the care of their patients on a daily basis as deemed appropriate. We also have taken on the role of introducing our osteopathic principles to the physicians of the greater Birmingham area, where Osteopathy has yet to flourish.
