Admission Procedures

Welcome to Cooper Green Mercy Hospital Admission Department.

The purpose of the Admitting Department is to provide appropriate assistance to all hospital departments as well as to gather and review information to ensure proper patient identification and documentation of financial resources and obligations.

The Admitting Department represents one of the major points of contact between the patient and the hospital.  The demeanor and practices of the department's employees provide the patient with one of his/her first impressions of the hospital.

The role and responsibility of the Admitting Department is an important function of the hospital and a proper understanding of the relationship of the department to all other departments is to be maintained.  The employees are to adhere to "a good customer satisfaction and public relations programs", with patients, relatives, visitors and hospital staff.

Admissions to inpatient services of the hospital are as follows:

Ø      Scheduled Admissions:

o       Occur between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

o       Admissions of this type are scheduled by each patient’s physician and pre-admission procedures are to be performed by the Admitting Department.

o      Scheduled admissions on the weekend are completed by Emergency Room Registration, when necessary.

 

Ø      Unscheduled Admissions:

o       Patients examined by a physician on a regular visit to the outpatient clinic may be determined to need inpatient care and immediate admission is ordered by the physician.

 

Ø      Emergency Admissions:

    o       Patients who present to the Emergency Room for care may be admitted directly to inpatient services.
